Celebrating a tradition of arts education in our schools.

The purpose of the annual All-City Arts Showcase is to provide access, equity and capacity beyond the arts classrooms by celebrating the arts learning, creativity and talents of the Pittsburgh Public Schools students in the four disciplines (visual arts, dance, music and theatre).

Alt-City Performances

April 26   6:30pm

Trust Arts Education Center 

The Alt-City, (short for alternative) provides opportunities for students to create original works of art, and then exhibit and perform those works in arts disciplines that typically are revered as an alternative, or on the fringe.

Elementary & Middle School Vocal Concert

The musical concerts—one of the oldest traditions in PPS, can be traced back to at least 1931—attracts students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. The Carnegie Music Hall was the host venue for many of the early performances.

A long-standing tradition within PPS, students from all regions participate on Saturdays preparing to perform in the  showcase to honor student learning in music.

High School Music Festival & Side-by-Side

April 26   7:00pm

Brashear High School

Duquesne University’s Music Education Department will partner with the PPS to present the All-City High School Music Festival and Side-by-Side. Students can participate through a music teacher’s recommendation or self-selection.

Musical Theatre Productions

Some of our high schools present musical theatre productions to compete for The Gene Kelley Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater, which are patterned after Broadway’s Tony® Awards.

The All-City Visual Arts programs provides a unique opportunity to showcase achievement in the Visual Arts and Design and exhibit student work (2D, 3D, and digital artwork) to the public in a highly-visible, public exhibition spaces in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District.
